Introduced in 2015, the VTIC Mixer series was created in response to several members and industry friends expressing that they were unable to consistently afford the time to attend business lunches, gala dinners etc, in order to do what they really wanted to, and that was network.
The VTIC team was discussing this issue (coincidentally over a social drink in a bar) when we had an epiphany – Let’s get our industry together (in a VTIC members’ venue of course), and shoot the breeze for FREE!… Well, you purchase your own drinks but that’s a reasonable ask.
After a little panel-beating of the concept, we approached a member venue who generously committed to giving us a small exclusive area from 5.30 – 7.00 pm, heavily subsidised drink prices and the option to stay on for a meal at a reduced price. To add value, and although we pride ourselves on the Mixers not being about presentations, we introduced a 5 minute ‘Guest Spot’ per Mixer where an expert has the chance to impart some knowledge to our attendees in a fun and interactive way. A couple of notables from 2016 were our ‘Elevator Pitch’ session where we learned the ‘Do’s’ and ‘Don’ts’ of delivering your personal brand elevator pitch, and our Christmas Magic Lesson where we all learned some great tricks for our work or family Christmas events.
No matter the topic of the ‘Guest Spot’, or its relevance to tourism, they were all relevant to humans and increased the ease and quality of the networking and relationship building among the group.
In 2017 we will again be holding the event on the first Wednesday of each month (excluding January, November and December 2017 due to event saturation). Traditionally this event has been held in metro-Melbourne, however should a regional member be interested in hosting and is prepared to assist us in promoting it to ensure we obtain sufficient attendee numbers, VTIC is more than happy to discuss this option
Looking to 2017, and in the spirit of collaboration we ask for your support of the VTIC Mixer Series by way of hosting in your venue, or appearing in the ‘Guest Spot’.
