It feels like only yesterday that we were celebrating the Western Bulldogs historic AFL premiership win and yet here we are, four days out from Christmas!
Continuing the collaboration that is the trademark of Victoria’s tourism industry, VTIC once again partnered with Destination Melbourne and Melbourne Convention Bureau to present the Industry Christmas Party at Cargo Hall, South Wharf. It was a great night and lovely way to cap off another busy and eventful year.
The Young Tourism Network (YTN) also took a leaf from our book and partnered with Young ATEC to host their Christmas function a week later at Tonic, Crown Promenade. A special mention to YTN Chair Amelia Maher and the committee for putting on a fantastic evening. It was great to hear from Minister for Tourism and Major Events, The Hon. John Eren MP, as listening to Minister Eren speak was a timely reminder of the importance of fostering the next generation of tourism and events industry professionals and leaders.
On the topic of industry leaders, I would like to extend a big congratulations to Chief Executive Officer of Phillip Island Nature Parks, Matthew Jackson on his recent appointment as CEO of Parks Victoria. The VTIC team and I wish you all the best on your new chapter and look forward to working with you further in the new year.
In between Christmas parties and preparations for your own celebrations, I hope you have some time for reflection, to think about the year that has been, and to imagine what is possible for the year ahead. VTIC is already well into planning its activities and events for 2017 and we will keep you posted on these, as well as industry news and issues as they arise.
Have a wonderful Christmas, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you in 2017.
