Australian Tourism Accreditation Program (ATAP) Accredited Operator Highlight

ATAP Accredited and proud VTIC Member Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine won Gold at the recent 2017 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards in the Tourism Education and Training category for their Professional Development program, and Bronze for the Visitor Information Services category.

ATAP Victoria caught up with Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine’s Industry Development Officer Lakshmi Cashmore to ask a few questions about why Accreditation is important to their organisation and for winning awards.

Ms. Cashmore notes that “Accreditation is a priority program at VTIC”, and observes that as Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine’s Professional Development programs help tourism businesses reach their potential through education, training, networking and coordination, having “Accreditation by ATAP allows us to set a standard for our own business practice.”

Elizabeth Curtain and the visitor services team delivered outstanding service to more than 200,000 visitors last year, encouraging them to stay longer, explore further and spend more in the region. “The award is well deserved recognition of a terrific service we’re very lucky to have,” says Lakshmi. The well-recognised blue and yellow ‘i’ Accredited Visitor Information Centres throughout the Greater Geelong and Bellarine region help attract visitors.

“With a strong industry focused on continual improvement, our regional visitor economy will continue to grow and flourish,” says Lakshmi, and ATAP Victoria couldn’t agree more. Continual improvement is a vital component of Accreditation, and we are here to help all tourism businesses achieve their goals.
