Dianne Smith to lead Victoria’s tourism and events industries

VECCI has announced Dianne Smith as its new General Manager Tourism and Events Services.

In this role Dianne will be fulfilling the multiple roles of Chief Executive of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) and the Victoria Events Industry Council (VEIC) as the peak organisations representing the state’s tourism industry.

Dianne was previously Manager Tourism Partnerships at Parks Victoria, a position she held for nine years. Dianne also brings experience in regional tourism to her new role, having served as Executive Director, Ballarat Tourism. As Marketing and Visitor Services Manager at Melbourne Zoo, Dianne also gained valuable experience at one of the state’s premier visitor attractions.

VECCI Chief Executive Mark Stone says he is pleased to welcome Dianne’s permanent appointment to the position.

“Dianne brings a wealth of experience in Victoria’s tourism industry to this position,” says Mr Stone.

“Her extensive knowledge of the industry will greatly assist with the strengthening of the relaunched VTIC brand as well as underlying the important role tourism plays in the Victorian economy,” says Mr Stone.

Dianne says she is looking forward to the challenges of representing the state’s tourism industry.

“This role allows me to bring together and draw upon my extensive experience in many sectors of Victoria’s tourism industry: parks, regional Victoria, attractions, and hotels.

“This appointment will allow me to continue VTIC’s policy and advocacy work in ensuring the tourism and events industries remain competitive and that regional Victoria in particular, benefits from the increasing number of people visiting Melbourne,” says Ms Smith.

VTIC and VEIC Chairmen, Jeremy Johnson and Peter Jones respectively, say Dianne brings a great track record within in the tourism industry to the position.

“Dianne has an impressive knowledge of both industries, which will aid engagement with members. Dianne is also extremely well respected among those in the tourism and events industries and this will significantly benefit both VTIC and VEIC’s role in representing the industries to policy makers,” they say.
