Fed Square funding adds more sizzle to Victorian tourism experience

Victoria’s peak tourism industry body has welcomed the announcement of $11.7 million in Victorian Government funding to renew Federation Square, saying the investment will continue to support the location as one of Melbourne’s premier tourist attractions.

Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) Chief Executive Dianne Smith says, “This funding will help maintain Federation Square as the prime meeting place for Melburnians and visitors.

“We congratulate the Victorian Government on having the foresight to maintain this iconic Melbourne site which adds a sizzle to our already fabulous tourism experience.”

Tourism and events contribute nearly $16 billion to Victoria’s economy each year and employ more than 200,000 people.

“We encourage the Government to continue investing in proven tourism products across the entire state and urge further investment in improving tourism products and experiences,” says Ms Smith.

“This must include the extension of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and appropriate investment in places like Point Nepean and Phillip Island Nature Parks.”
