The expansion of Melbourne Airport will help ensure Victoria stays competitive and could not have come at a better time in light of Sydney’s recently announced redevelopment.

The upgrade will involve the construction of a new interconnected domestic terminal by 2014, new multi-level car park, baggage facilities and extra plane gates, plus the widening and expansion of several airport roads.

Melbourne Airport already has some competitive advantages over Sydney, including its curfew-free status and already largely co-located terminals.

These factors, combined with the planned improvements, will mean Melbourne Airport will be on its way to becoming Australia’s premier gateway.

Melbourne Airport has also experienced significant increases in passenger traffic, helped by a large increase in the number of direct international flights and we need to ensure these visitors are experiencing a comfortable, world-class airport.

The airport is often the first and last impression a visitor has of Melbourne so it’s important we make it a good one and these plans will help ensure this.
