It’s been a busy and fulfilling year at VTIC and, as it draws to a close, I wish all our members and friends a very happy festive season.

The many highlights for VTIC in 2014 included hosting the inaugural Victorian Tourism Conference in Geelong, developing new research into the value of our industry, the creation of industry development tools and speaking on behalf of our growing member base.

On top of this, Victoria’s tourism and events industry has performed well. Not only has overall visitor expenditure continued to increase, there has been a strengthening in visitor numbers and spending in regional Victoria, which was a key part of VTIC’s 2014 Policy Agenda.

VTIC was active in representing our sector in the lead-up to the state election in November. Advocating for such a vibrant industry gave us the opportunity to meet with key members from all sides of the political spectrum. I never tire of reminding our leaders of the more than 200,000 jobs involved in tourism, with half of these in regional Victoria.

We look forward to working with our new Minister for Tourism and Major Events, the Hon John Eren MP, as well as continuing to support members and our stakeholders.

Thank you for allowing us to speak on your behalf, and thank you for participating in VTIC events and activities this year. Please remember to check our website for the latest industry event dates. Already confirmed is the VTIC 2015 Program Launch, to be held on Friday 20 February 2015, and more are listed in the “2015 dates for your diary” section.

On behalf of the VTIC team, we look forward to seeing you in the new year and wish you a prosperous summer season!
