TOURISM OPERATORS URGED TO HELP RAISE AWARENESS OF FRUIT FLY

23 /05/ 2012 Comments are Closed

Tourism operators across northern Victoria are being urged to assist the Tri-State Fruit Fly Committee in its campaign to help protect local fruit industries by including a link on their websites or social media sites to a community service announcement designed to raise awareness among travellers of the restrictions on bringing fresh produce into the Fruit Fly Exclusion Zone.

Recent experiences with random fruit fly roadblocks confirm that the message about fruit fly is, in many cases, not getting through to the travelling public. The community service announcement features celebrity chef Stefano de Pieri warning visitors not to bring fresh fruit and vegetables into fruit producing areas and risk causing a devastating fruit fly outbreak.
