Victoria Tourism Week turns spotlight on Melbourne

Victoria Tourism Week will become Melbourne Tourism Week in 2015 led by Destination Melbourne.

Many long time VTIC members will be familiar with Victoria Tourism Week (VTW) – a collection of events and activities in the first week of September that aim to highlight the value of tourism in Victoria.  We held some excellent events and received media coverage, but it became clear that without significant marketing budget and human resources, we were going to struggle to take our message beyond our industry. From a Victoria-wide perspective, we were preaching to the converted.

If you joined us at our Program Launch last month, you’d have heard that our focus areas are meeting and supporting our members – particularly through our Regional Roadshows, delivering a great RACV Victorian Tourism Awards Program, backing up with our second Victorian Tourism Conference, providing online learning and our ongoing policy, advocacy and research.

With all of that activity going on, something had to give. Victoria Tourism Week was it.

Destination Melbourne will continue with Melbourne Tourism Week running the Melbourne Tourism Industry Exchange and the local Council Breakfast, and will seek further opportunities to drive the value of tourism messaging. We have committed to supporting the promotion of Melbourne Tourism Week to our industry members.
