A message from Acting Chief Executive Kristina Burke
Congratulations to the recently crowned winners at the 32nd Victorian Tourism Awards! We were delighted with the number and the calibre of entries in this year’s Awards, reflecting greater industry engagement with the program and a further improvement in the already high quality of submissions. The results affirm Victoria as a leading visitor destination of the highest quality and hold Victoria in good stead for the Australian Tourism Awards in Darwin in February next year.
We’re also delighted to announce our three newly elected Board Directors and Chairs of their respective policy committees, as confirmed at today’s Annual General Meeting:
Celebrations will continue next week with the Industry Christmas Party at Cargo Hall, presented in partnership with our friends at Destination Melbourne and Melbourne Convention Bureau. It’s a busy time of year but we do hope you can join us.
Unfortunately the news has not been so good for the backpacker sector. After the 15% compromise rate passed the Lower House, Labor’s amendment for 10.5% passed the Senate; meaning it needs to go back to the Lower House. Industry needs certainty on this matter. We will continue to monitor this issue and keep you posted on the outcome.
The many industry events that take place around this time of year give us plenty of opportunities to catch up with members face-to-face. We are well-underway with planning our calendar of events for 2017 and look forward to more occasions to engage with our members.
