DS Headshot 2014
It’s been a big year for VTIC and for the Victorian tourism and events sector overall.

For those of you who were at our AGM two weeks ago, you would know we’ve been working hard in 2014 to:

·         bring you together as an industry, through our policy committees and sharing common issues and opportunities,

·         Advocate strongly on your behalf through media and our communications, and

·         Deliver a range of events and services to help you grow and develop your businesses.

It was wonderful to induct Matt Noble as our newest VTIC Life Member, and welcome Charles Davidson and Will Flamsteed as our newest Board Directors. We shall miss Roger Grant and Laura Miles being around our Board table, however are delighted they’re both staying on in their policy committees.

During November, we are especially proud to launch our new Jobs Board and Member Directory on our website.

On reflection, I was proud that VTIC had a stronger presence in regional Victoria this year, holding two of our major events outside of Melbourne: the Victorian Tourism Conference, down in Geelong, and the Visitor Information Centre Summit in the Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region.

Now, of course – we’re in the final days before the state Election. Throughout this year, we’ve been aiming to get Tourism on the agenda because we believe Tourism equals jobs. We’ve been pleased with the recent commitments to expand the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, both parties committing to invest in the Grampians Peaks Trail, upgrading facilities at Sovereign Hill and Puffing Billy, and the extension of the Formula 1 Grand Prix contract to 2020. We eagerly await the outcome of the State Election to see how many of the pre-election commitments are realised by the next government.

Thanks for being a VTIC member and for contributing the great industry that is Victorian tourism and events. On behalf of our Chair, Jeremy Johnson, and Board Members Merry Christmas and may you all have a bustling Summer season.
