Finals fever hits Melbourne Airport

Footy finals hit Melbourne Airport thanks to Virgin Australia and the AFL who officially unveiled a life-sized mural of eight of this year’s Toyota AFL Finals Series players. The footy themed mural can be found in Terminal 3 next to Virgin Australia’s lounge and travellers are encouraged to take a selfie with the artwork during the finals. Players include Jeremy Cameron, Scott Pendlebury, Lance Franklin, Dustin Martin, Josh Kennedy, Jarryd Roughead, Max Gawn and Tom Hawkins.  Melbourne Airport is supporting the initiative by teaming up with Krispy Kreme to create a ‘doughnut creation station’ where travellers can decorate a doughnut in their team’s colours.

In aviation news, Melbourne Airport experienced a strong month of travel with 3.1 million passengers flying during August, a rise of 5.2 per cent compared to traveller figures in August 2017. International passenger volumes were also strong, rising by 10.3 per cent on August last year.

Lastly, Melbourne Airport announced it will continue its partnership with Western Chances for another three years, which will see around 500 additional scholarships valued at $440, 00 made available for local youth. Talented and motivated high school and tertiary students facing financial barriers living in Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham will be eligible for the scholarship program.
