From the Chief Executive, Felicia Mariani

We have been travelling across the State over the last 10 weeks visiting members and meeting with Government representatives at a State and local level as we carry the message of your priorities ahead of the November election.

We’ve completed eight regional visits already with more planned for the month of October. This roadshow has created a tremendous opportunity to ensure that our industry remains front and centre with key decision makers.

What has been even more important though, has been the chance to connect in such a meaningful way with our members across Victoria. Being able to hear from members in such an informal environment has meant that we could be candid and honest about pain points in your businesses and the places where VTIC could intervene to make a difference. While much has been achieved in our sector that we should be incredibly proud of, there is still much work to be done to ensure that Victoria remains a leader in attracting and servicing our visitors. These sessions have certainly crystallised for us the areas of concern on the part of our members and we have a very clear vision shaping about the future.

As we look to the future, we are keen to celebrate success, and there’s no better place to do that than at our RACV Victorian Tourism Awards Gala Ceremony on 22 November at Crown Palladium. It’s been a long year of hard work and achievement and this is your chance to acknowledge all the effort and wins over 2018. Book your tickets early, and remember, if you’re an Essentials member or above, you can use your valuable member credits towards tickets to the Awards. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come and along and be part of an event that truly is the centrepiece of our events calendar for the industry.

With today being UN World Tourism Day, the Government has launched Round 3 of their Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF). Applications open today with $200 million available, and up to $45 million of this funding earmarked to support tourism related infrastructure projects.

There are two streams of funding available under the program: Infrastructure Projects Stream and Community Investments Stream. The Infrastructure Projects Stream will support projects for new infrastructure or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure that provide economic and social benefits to regional and remote areas.

  • Applications for Round 3 close on 15 November 2018.
  • The competitive funding opportunity will continue to support projects that benefit areas outside of the major capital cities.
  • Successful projects will receive grants of up to $10 million from the Commonwealth – the minimum grant amount is $20,000.

Eligibility criteria with complete grant guidelines are available on Regional and Business websites.
