As we all head off on what is a very special extended Easter break, it’s great to reflect on what this will mean for our industry over the coming week. This not-too-frequent occasion means that our tourism sector is in full swing and hopefully our operators right across the State are reaping the benefits of this extended holiday.
As we head to the Federal election, tourism has been given a major boost with the announcement in the Budget of a commitment of $50 million to Tourism Icons projects across the country…This commitment is the direct result of extensive lobbying on the part of the Australian Tourism Industry Council, of which VTIC is a member, and it was pleasing to see the Morrison Government respond in such a big way. Two Icons Projects have already been announced in WA and Tasmania, and we are looking forward to regional Victoria being recognised as part of this important funding package as well.
If you haven’t seen it already, this week VTIC launched our 2019 Victorian Tourism Conference to be held in Geelong on 17 and 18 July. This year we’re promising an even bigger event than what we delivered in the Mornington Peninsula in 2018. We sold out three weeks before the event last year, and many of you were unable to attend this special event. Don’t miss out this year, details and registration link are here.
