The National Trust of Australia (Victoria) (NTAV) is an independent, non-profit organisation supported by a large membership base. We are Victoria’s premier heritage and conservation organisation and the major operator of historic properties and sites open to the public across Victoria.
About the role:
We are looking for an experienced and creative curator who is interested in developing their career in a role whose principal focus will be on strategic planning, leadership, coordination and management. We want an individual with the vision and energy to help shape some new directions for the National Trust, to develop strong relationships with external networks; equally, will have the management capability to inspire and motivate a committed and passionate team. As such, they should demonstrate curatorial flair as well as experience in developing complex, multi-faceted programs and be able to schedule and coordinate the delivery of them. Ideally, the candidate will also be able to demonstrate a strong interest in innovation in art and museum programs, and experience of reaching new audiences.
This diverse role will allow you to harness your excellent management skills and be responsible for improving visitor engagement through the planning of the presentation and interpretation of the Trusts heritage sites and collections. The successful candidate will take a hands-on role in the delivery of programs, whilst driving change and innovation in the presentation of heritage tourist sites.
Acting as a leader for your creative team, you will seek and create business development opportunities for our collections and house museums. You will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of cultural engagement initiatives which support programming, interpretation and visitor engagement. Your role will explore new stories of the National Trust as well as research and investigate ways to share these tales with the public. This position promotes awareness and access to our collections, exhibitions, programs and cultural services. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of engagement programs and exhibitions to a high standard, strategically focussed and designed with the needs of audiences in mind.
Sitting within the senior management team, reporting to the CEO, this position plays an integral role in business growth and development. You’ll have a breadth of experience in managing and developing house museums, including experience with collections management and interpretations. You will be highly motivated, energetic and well-experienced people leader. You will have a strong reputation for scholarship, as well as an interest in systems and processes.
