Tennis Australia (TA) is one of the largest sports, entertainment and media production houses in Asia-Pacific.  In recent years, we have experienced unprecedented growth of the Australian Open, which has seen us expand our operations to Hong Kong, Shanghai & Chengdu.

We are now building our team so we can deliver the most spectacular summer of tennis yet in 2020.  The Australian Open and AO Series Events will be back bigger and better than ever.  On top of this, we are launching the ATP Cup, a premier team event held across Brisbane, Perth and Sydney that will see the world’s top male players take to the court.  As a result of this growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded Sales Manager – Partnerships (SMP) to join our team.

Reporting to the Director of International Business, you will lead a team of Business Development Managers (BDMs) to generate revenue and secure new partners.  These new partnerships will be for properties such as the Australian Open, ATP Cup, Adelaide International, Brisbane International and Hobart International.  You will sell within a creative and solution-based environment by understanding how brands can creatively leverage TA properties to reach, connect and engage with consumers for their benefit and to support their business objectives.   Solutions may incorporate sponsorship rights, activation across multiple platforms and distribution points such as broadcast, media, onsite experiences, community engagement, licensing, retail, trade, digital, social media and leveraging talent. 

In this role you will:

  • Secure new partnerships or sponsorships that a strategically important to the TA business, particularly new entertainment verticals (food and dining, music, family and kids entertainment, shopping and film)
  • Maintain and progress a strong and relevant sales pipeline, individually and as a team, at all times
  • Activity to support business development outcomes such as market prospecting, sales meetings, information extraction and brief development, developing proposals, pitching proposals, negotiation, closing and contracting
  • Maintain, update and report on sales activity, pipelines and forecast revenue as required
  • Lead and develop a high performing team
  • Manage go-to-market strategies including identification of industry / category opportunities
  • Contribute to the development of new products or properties

What you will bring to the role:

  • Demonstrated results in business development environment generating revenue from new business clients
  • Ability to think about broader business, how a partnership can contribute and support the business in its entirety
  • An understanding that a partnership value is not just measured by revenue or a rights fee
  • Thorough experience in sales processes and techniques, including but not limited to market prospecting via different means, conducting sales meetings, extracting information from prospects, creating a need, developing a brief, developing proposals, pitching and presenting proposals, negotiating, closing and contracting
  • Demonstrated experience managing, leading and developing a high performing team
  • Tertiary qualification in marketing or business will be highly regarded
  • Alignment with the TA Values of: Excellence, Humility, Loyalty and Teamwork
  • You must hold (or be willing to obtain) a current Police Check and Working with Children Check.
