A message from Chief Executive, Brad Ostermeyer

The highlight every November is the tourism and events industry night of nights, the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards Gala Ceremony.  It was a spectacular evening, with Victoria’s finest operators being recognised for their excellence.  Well done to Mike Hamilton and Olivia Bowden in particular for making this happen.

On the advocacy front, VTIC has been pitching our 2018 State Budget Submission with key Government Ministers and also with Opposition MPs.  This advocacy has already proven to be successful, with the State Government recently announcing some much needed funding for Puffing Billy.

The VTIC AGM was also held on 29 November, with the Annual Report providing an insight into activities for 2016/17.  The next major event is the Victorian Tourism Industry Christmas Party on 11 December 2017, proudly brought to you by VTIC, Melbourne Convention Bureau and Destination Melbourne.

As this newsletter coincides with my departure from VTIC, I wanted to take the opportunity to let you know what a privilege it has been to lead the peak body for Victoria’s tourism and events industry.  At the Tourism Awards Gala Ceremony, I talked about the industry being built on a fundamental strength – its people – and this provides enormous confidence for the future.  I wish you all well and every success in the future.
