It was a pleasure to host my first Visitor Economy Forum last month at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. From all accounts and feedback, the real highlight was the energy and focus that was created through the content shard that day.
The event saw us outline the direction of our 2018 Election Priorities and, from all accounts, our emphasis on addressing supply side issues in regional areas across the state has really struck a chord.
As I noted on the day, 2018 will be our OLYMPICS YEAR for tourism in Victoria. We only get the opportunity once every four years to influence policy and investment in our industry that can make or break our success over the following four years.
Over the immediate weeks following my commencement in the role, we have been meeting with both sides of government to outline our platform and to advocate strongly on your behalf for the infrastructure game-changers that can spur our future growth.
Our success in driving the investment and vision necessary to push Victoria ahead of the pack in the competitive arena of tourism needs to be a collaborative effort. VTIC will take a strong lead in pushing hard for the priorities we have identified as crucial to our success; but we will need each of you to support this message and ensure that every politician on all sides of government is aware of the unity and influence our industry can garner.
In the next few weeks, we will be providing our members with digital assets and collateral material that will allow you to share in our advocacy platform. Spreading the message that TOURISM IS VICTORIA’S BUSINESS is a powerful platform that focuses attention on the jobs and economic and social outcomes that are a direct result of our industry’s performance.
Working together, we can ensure that tourism takes home the gold in this our Olympics Year!
