A message from the Chief Executive, Felicia Mariani

It’s been an incredible start to 2018 and I’m thrilled to be taking on the challenges of leading VTIC at such a critical juncture for our industry.

January is always an exciting time in our city with the energy of the Australian Open. I know these days there are tennis events held across the country this month in most capital cities, but they’re all really just a dress rehearsal for the main event that plays out on Melbourne’s stage.

The Triennial exhibition is on show at NGV until Sunday 15 April and it’s been an incredible attraction that’s drawing audiences of all ages and diverse profiles. A celebration of art and design that spans all four levels of the gallery, this FREE exhibition has something for everyone.

With February just a week away, once again White Night will be lighting up our city and engaging visitors from dusk to dawn in a wonderland of light and entertainment. This year, we’re excited that the magic of White Night will travel to three regional centres, with Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong all set to illuminate, throwing a spotlight on the magic of regional Victoria.

As we enjoy a summer season in full swing, we have our sights firmly set on the task at hand for the year ahead. With the budget hand-down in May and the state election in November, we have been busy shaping our advocacy platform to ensure issues impeding the growth of Victoria’s visitor economy are front and centre on the political agenda for both sides of government.

Next month, on Wednesday 28 February, our annual Visitor Economy Forum will be held at MCEC. This event is a collaboration with Tourism Australia and the second half of the day is dedicated to their sharing key insights into trends and forecasts for our overseas markets.

For VTIC, this will be a pivotal time as we look to outline our agenda for the year ahead, which will form the centrepiece of our portion of the event. This will be our opportunity to map out for you our planned approach for engagement with government and other key influencers. We’ll use our time that day to share this vision with you. This year will be about creating a movement that firmly plants the issues of the visitor economy on the State agenda and we need you to be a powerful advocate in our campaign. Our voice can be strong if we carry the message in unison and I’ll be sharing with you how you can be a key player in this important process.
