This month, I would like to use this forum to acknowledge the incredible contribution and commitment of a true leader in our industry and one of the original architects of what is today VTIC.
I’m sure by now most of you realise I’m referring to Jeremy Johnson. Jeremy has retired from his role as CEO of Sovereign Hill after 16 amazing years at the helm and 23 years with the organisation. There will undoubtedly be a rolling litany of celebrations to honour the incredible contribution that Jeremy has made over decades to this industry.
While Jeremy’s “day job” has been with Sovereign Hill, his dedication to the wider industry has been tireless and no one has benefited from this commitment more than VTIC. He was instrumental in the formation of VTIC and was our Chair from 2006 to 2016.
During this time Jeremy steered the organisation through several changes of government and through structural change that’s seen VTIC evolve to cement its position as the peak policy and advocacy body for Victorian tourism.
We will be celebrating with him in the coming weeks, but for now, I wanted to acknowledge and thank Jeremy for his leadership, for his commitment and for his vision that has allowed VTIC and our industry to benefit and prosper.
With the hand-down of the Budget earlier this month, VTIC has been in full swing to drive home our election priorities for the industry. From mid-June we will kick off our regional roadshows across the state, bringing our message to key regions that form the centrepiece of our priorities platform.
We will continue to update you on developments, but for now our focus is squarely on ensuring that we engage with political figures at all levels of Government, and all persuasions of Government, taking your message to them and their campaigns.
