The Victoria Tourism Industry Council has welcomed the agreement between Tourism Australia and international passenger airline Emirates, saying the partnership will help to secure Victoria as a key tourist destination to international markets.
VTIC Chief Executive Dianne Smith says, “The partnership will see marketing activities jointly targeted in some of Victoria’s most significant visitor markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and New Zealand.
“We are thankful to both Tourism Australia and Emirates for the positive affect this partnership likely to have on the Victorian tourism industry.”
Under a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two parties intend to collectively spend up to AUD$14.3 million over the next three years on a range of joint marketing activities.
Currently Emirates operate 70 flights per week to Australia via Dubai, including 21 services to Melbourne. With this announcement, the flights will grow to a total of 84 weekly by early 2013.
The announcement follows the welcoming last week of the arrival of Emirates Airline’s first Airbus A380 flight into the Australian gateway at Melbourne Airport.
“The announcement also further reinforces Melbourne Airport as Australia’s premier international airport,” says Ms Smith.
