Staff from the Port Fairy & Region Visitor Information Centre recently organised the inaugural Local Tourism Product Showcase Networking Event on Wednesday 3 April 2019 in Port Fairy. Ashley Price, Visitor Services Team Leader, explains how the event has developed stronger links between the local tourism operators and their Visitor Information Servicing team, for the benefit of the region.
“The event was a huge success providing a platform for frontline operators, staff and Visitor Information Centre volunteers to gain information to become expert ambassadors of the region’s local tourism product, while also providing networking opportunities between businesses, towns, councils and event coordinators to collaborate and provide packaged deals targeting visitors to the region.
The first event saw 11 local businesses showcased, with 63 staff from local operators sharing knowledge on ways to attract and retain more visitors to Moyne Shire. With all guests split into 12 groups and given 6 minutes with each of the 11 operators, conversations were personalised and fast paced providing the perfect platform for our busy industry operators and ambassadors.
The night concluded with a hotly contested trivia competition with $1000 in prizes donated by the showcased operators, providing the opportunity for a VIP famil to the lucky winners.
The next Product Showcase event is in September; for more information follow the Port Fairy Tourism Facebook page.”
