VTIC recently voiced its concerns about the proposed axing of the long-running Survey of Tourism Accommodation by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The proposed changes to the ABS program were a result of budget cuts and would have resulted in the loss of an important data source used by the accommodation sector and other tourism industry stakeholders for policy and operational planning purposes. We were very pleased with the announcement, made at the Coalition Friends of Tourism dinner held in Canberra on 25 June, that the Survey of Tourism Accommodation would be re-instated into the ABS work program. This is an important win for the tourism industry.
