Volunteers are an integral part of Victoria’s accredited Visitor Information Centres (VIC), with 1,591 volunteers across Victoria’s 66 accredited VICs. As passionate ambassadors of their region, they are always happy to share a story, providing authenticity and adding significant value to the visitor experience.
Our ongoing state-wide VIS survey has received over 4,500 responses to date, with visitors nominating “getting information and recommendations from locals” as one of the top three reasons they enter a VIC. With volunteers like Heather at the Central Gippsland Visitor Centre, it’s no surprise to see these results. Read Heather’s insights on visitor servicing from her last eight years of volunteering here, including why she volunteers and the changes experienced in the shift from a standalone VIC to a shared service at the new Port of Sale.
