VTIC has welcomed today’s announcement by the Federal Government of a new $48.5 million Tourism Industry Regional Development Fund, saying the merits based grants will open doors for innovation in the industry.

VTIC Chief Executive Dianne Smith says, “The funding is a welcome announcement that will help to position Australia and Victoria as a competitive and attractive investment and tourism destination.

“We are particularly pleased that some revenue from the Passenger Movement Charge is being reinvested back into the tourism industry through this initiative.”

A major focus of the program will be on improving the quality of accommodation and attractions in regional areas so that the tourism facilities match the beauty of Australia’s regions.

“Forty-five cents out of every tourist dollar spent in Australia is spent in our regions,” says Ms Smith.

“It’s essential that products remain fresh and innovative.

“We look forward to working with industry to ensure Victoria is well represented in these grants.

“Victoria’s regional product is of a very high quality and further investment in the regions will encourage continued future success.”
