Among the results, we were thrilled to see that employment in the tourism industry grew at a faster rate than employment in the Victorian State economy overall! Tourism’s share of employment in the state grew from 6.2 per cent in 2012-13 (219,800 jobs), to 7.2 per cent of the Victorian economy in 2017-18 (232,700 jobs).
We were also encouraged to see that in 2017-18 tourism in Victoria was estimated to be worth $26.7 billion to the economy in Gross State Product, an increase of 6.9 per cent or $1.7 billion from revised estimates for 2016-17 of $25.0 billion.
